Rhinoplasty Procedure

Improve the Structure or Appearance Of Your Nose

Rhinoplasty is a more common type of surgery that involves changing the shape of the nose. The procedure can address a variety of cosmetic imperfections that one may find troublesome or unattractive. During the rhinoplasty procedure, a cosmetic surgeon can modify the width, length, size, and shape of the nose, taking into account the tip of the nose and the nostrils. In addition, a rhinoplasty can reduce the appearance of any bumps or irregularities across the bridge of the nose. Rhinoplasty can also be performed to repair the nose after trauma, correct a deviated septum, or to improve breathing.

Dr. Horn offers rhinoplasty services to patients throughout the Norwich, Norfolk area. When planning the procedure, our plastic surgeon will consider your other facial features to ensure the results of your rhinoplasty will look natural and attractive. Since a rhinoplasty involves changing bone, cartilage, and skin, a customised plan is necessary to achieve the desired look or outcome. Dr. Horn has years of knowledge and experience performing rhinoplasty procedures, meaning we can suggest the best process based on your goals.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

There are a number of reasons why patients consider rhinoplasty, including:
  • Reshaping nostrils
  • Modifying the size of the nose
  • Reducing or reshaping the nasal tip
  • Reducing bumps or irregularities in the bridge
  • Improving appearance between facial features
  • Correcting a deviated septum
  • Improving breathing
  • Trauma repair

Rhinoplasty Healing Process

After rhinoplasty surgery, you must rest in bed and ensure your head is raised higher than your chest. This helps to reduce swelling and bleeding that is common post surgery. You may feel congested due to the swelling and splints placed inside your nose after surgery. In most cases, the dressings inside and splits outside of your nose remain in place for one to seven days after surgery for protection and support. Bleeding and mucus drainage is common for a few days.

It is important to take precautions for several weeks after surgery to ensure correct healing. Avoid strenuous activity, do not blow your nose, avoid extreme facial expressions, and be gentle when brushing your teeth. Try to avoid clothing that pulls over your head and take baths instead of showers while the dressings are still on your nose. Swelling and discoloration will last for a few weeks after surgery, but this is totally normal for the rhinoplasty procedure.
